Palazzolo Acreide and Buscemi

UNESCO Human Heritage site, Palazzolo Acreide, was restored to life after the catastrophic earthquake of 1693 which, in only one night, brutally destroyed more than 30 towns in the Iblei hills. The churches are examples of the wonderful game of cross-references, exemplifying by the mighty plastic interplay of light and shade which alternates continuous surfaces with balustrade galleries and severe parades of saints. Your guide will also show you the stunning Akrai’s Latomie, ancient caves also employed as necropolis.

Afterwards you will reach the little town in the Iblei hills, Buscemi. After the earthquake of 1693, the town was built again in baroque style, confirmed by the monumental churches and magnificent buildings. Here your guide will accompany you to visit a local farm, known for the production of fresh ricotta.
